Our advisors are highly experienced executive leaders. They bring both critical challenge and different perspectives, so that we benefit from contemporary thought leadership across the fields and disciplines in which we work.

Helen England

Helen is a highly experienced executive leader and non-executive director and trustee. She has worked for more than 30 years in health and social care and her career spans work in the public, private and voluntary sectors. She has extensive board experience in both the NHS and in not for profit organisations.

Helen started her career as a music therapist working in the fields of learning difficulty and disability, autism, neurodevelopment and mental health. Her professional expertise now encompasses transformation, organisational change and development and corporate governance. She holds an MBA and a Professional Diploma in Corporate Governance. Helen has significant experience in developing and mentoring senior leaders and in developing Boards and their effectiveness. She currently serves as the CEO of The Brandon Trust and as a Non-Executive Director on the Oversight Trust Board.

Barry Horner

Barry is the CEO & co-founder of ‘employee owned’ Paradigm Norton Financial Planning and has subsequently led the team of 75 to its current position whereby the firm is widely regarded as one of the most respected financial planning firms in the UK – an achievement recognised within the profession through Paradigm Norton winning over 27 professional awards since its formation in 2001.

Barry is a regular contributor to the broadsheets and financial trade press. He is a past Chair of the Denver based Financial Planning Standards Board, a past President of the Institute of Financial Planning and in 2019 was voted one of the top 100 ‘Industry’s most influential’ by International Adviser.

Dr Helen Smith

Helen is a highly experienced psychiatrist who has extensive leadership experience both within and across organisations. She has developed advanced expertise in Quality Improvement and works with teams and boards to help organisations build a culture of safety and continuous improvement. Her work in the design and delivery of Quality Improvement Programmes in Patient Safety in mental health and cross community suicide prevention has been recognised through a number of national awards.

Helen has been a Medical Director within the NHS for many years and now works with the South West Academic Health Science Network as a specialist advisor and sits on the Royal College of Psychiatrists Quality Improvement Committee.
